Family Day Care Educators provide education and care for children in the educator’s home environment. They undergo a comprehensive assessment process before becoming registered and must meet the requirements under the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011) and the National Quality Framework (introduced in 2012).

We know that the best outcomes for a child in an education and care service are achieved when Educators and families work in partnership to ensure that the experience the child has in care is meaningful. It is important to honour the diverse histories, culture, languages, traditions, child rearing practices, family structures and life style decisions of families so we can better support children’s learning.

Your educator will encourage you to provide input into the children’s experiences whilst they are at family day care, e.g., any special family events, holidays you have been on, what your child’s current interests are, their favourite toy, and the special people in your child’s life.
Your family may be invited to participate in other ways too, for example; attendance at special functions or outings, sharing a special skill or interest with the children (i.e., play guitar, cook, crafts, traditions etc).

Our educators:

  • Provide education and care for children that recognise the child’s mind, body and spirit and are responsive to children’s strengths, abilities and interests.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and hygienic environment that provides challenges for children to explore, solve problems, engage and feel a sense of belonging.
  • Reflect, document, evaluate and plan for the child’s ongoing learning as described in The Early Years Learning Framework and My Time, Our Place.
  • Work in partnerships with children, families, community, and the Coordination Unit staff.
  • Recognise the rich diversity of Australian life and respect the multiple ways of belonging, being and knowing within family culture.
  • Commit to personal wellbeing, professionalism and ongoing professional development and learning.
  • Manage a small business where all laws, regulations and record keeping are maintained in accordance with Family Assistance Law and the National Quality Framework.

Why do families and educators love Uniting Care Early Education?

We encourage educators to develop programs that support individual children’s needs and interests. This is done by engaging with the children and their families to gain greatest understanding of them as individuals.

We have a long term coordination teams who have been committed to developing relationships with educators. The coordinators are active advocators within the sector, and understand the better support educators receive, the higher quality care the children will receive.

We currently have resource libraries in Brisbane, Longreach and Gympie where educators are able to access car restraints, cots and resources to utilise for their educational program.

Play sessions are available for our Brisbane based Family Day Cares, with options of recorded and live zoom sessions for our rural and remote services.

We pride ourselves in the relationships we have with families and educators across FDC and IHC. This comes from having face to face conversations and connections. Location is no barrier, wherever a car, plane and in some cases a ferry can get us, we will visit.
